What a Uganda gorilla safari costs

The permit is the famous line item. Lodges, road or air transfers, and safari days usually cost more than the permit over a week.

Do not trust a single “from $X” without asking what is included. A honest quote separates: UWA permit, park extras, lodge nights, vehicle/driver or flights, meals, bottled water, and tips (ranger, porter, driver).

Permit prices follow the Uganda Wildlife Authority Conservation Tariff (July 2024–June 2026). Confirm before you pay. Official PDF: UWA tariff PDF. Last editorial check: August 2026.

Tips people actually pay

Porters, ranger guides, and drivers are customarily tipped in USD or UGX cash. Your operator should brief amounts. Budget extra for community walks and golden monkeys if you add them.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask first

Why do two quotes differ by thousands?

Lodge category and transport mode dominate. A tented camp vs a luxury lodge, and road vs air, swing the total more than operator markup on the permit.
