Most visitors apply online at visas.immigration.go.ug. East African Community citizens have different rules. Eligibility by nationality changes — check the portal, not a blog.
The East Africa Tourist Visa covers tourism in Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda for 90 days. It does not include Tanzania, Burundi, or South Sudan. First entry should be the country that issued the visa.
Figures are a planning guide. Confirm current entry rules on the official portal visas.immigration.go.ug before you apply. Last editorial check: August 2026.
Documents travellers forget
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate (physical card).
- Passport bio page that matches the gorilla permit.
- Proof of onward travel and accommodation if asked.
- Malaria prophylaxis is a medical decision — see a travel clinic 4–6 weeks out.
Visa vs permit
A visa lets you enter Uganda. A UWA gorilla permit lets you trek. You need both. Operators can advise; they cannot replace immigration.
FAQ
Questions travellers ask first
Can I get a visa on arrival instead?
Immigration has pushed travellers to pre-apply online. Do not rely on arrival queues for a gorilla itinerary with fixed permit dates.
