Longer encounter
Gorilla habituation experience
Up to four hours with a family still being habituated — research-adjacent, physically demanding, and priced above a standard tracking permit.
Not the standard 1 hour
Rushaga / Nkuringo
Same as tracking
Habituation is a conservation process: repeated, controlled human presence so a wild family can later be visited by standard tourist groups. You join rangers and researchers for a longer window. It is not a private “better gorilla photo” product — behaviour can be skittish, and the walk can be longer.
Permit prices follow the Uganda Wildlife Authority Conservation Tariff (July 2024–June 2026). Confirm before you pay. Official PDF: UWA tariff PDF. Last editorial check: August 2026.
FAQ
Questions travellers ask first
Should first-timers book habituation?
Only if you want a longer, less predictable day and accept the higher fee. Standard tracking is the right first product for most visitors.
