Your permit is tied to a sector. You cannot trek Buhoma on a Rushaga permit. Choose the sector for logistics (road vs air, lodge belt) as much as for “easier trails” — gorillas move.

Which sector?

  • Buhoma — north, longest-established, pairs with Queen Elizabeth / Ishasha.
  • Ruhija — east, cooler, strong birding.
  • Rushaga — south, most families, habituation options.
  • Nkuringo — southwest ridge, steep, dramatic views toward the Virungas.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask first

How do I get to Bwindi?

Road from Kampala/Entebbe is a long day (often 8–10 hours depending on sector). Many travellers fly to a nearby airstrip or enter from Kigali (especially Rushaga/Nkuringo). Your operator should time the briefing; do not plan to trek the morning you land from Europe.
