FAQ

Questions travellers ask first

How much is a gorilla permit in Uganda?

Foreign non-residents pay USD 800 for tracking on the UWA tariff (July 2024–June 2026). Residents, Rest of Africa, and EAC citizens pay less. See the permits page.

How far in advance should I book?

For June–September and December–February, start 6–10 months out. Shoulder months can be shorter.

Is gorilla trekking safe?

The main risks are terrain, weather, and following ranger instructions. Gorillas are wild. Stay the briefed distance.

Can children trek?

No one under 15. Plan a non-trek activity for younger family members.

Do I need a tour operator?

Foreign visitors should book permits through a licensed Ugandan operator. That is also how logistics and lodge nights are coordinated.
